The first practice session of the Portuguese Grand Prix saw some shockers and some expectations being met, with Mazepin still finishing last whilst George Russell pushed his Williams to get P7 at the end of the session. The second practice session seems to have had much less dramatic, with a familiar face on top and the hotshot youngster close behind.

The top of the table for FP2 was occupied by Lewis Hamilton, with the driver setting the fastest lap of 1:19.837 on a set of mediums. Close behind Max Verstappen had his best session time at a deficit of 0.143 seconds from the Mercedes driver. P3 was held by Valtteri Bottas, who lost his record of finishing P1 in all practice sessions that he had set in 2020.

Next up we had Carlos Sainz in P4 finishing ahead of teammate Charles Leclerc who dropped down to P7. In between both Ferraris were the Alpines, with Fernando Alonso in P5 and Esteban Ocon in P6. Alonso had a slight edge at this track, having been part of a 24 hour test on the circuit in the past.

Daniel Ricciardo managed to best Lando Norris who was in P12, whilst the Australian managed a P8 finish in the practice session. Lance Stroll, Sergio Perez and Pierre Gasly split the two McLaren drivers apart.

George Russell managed to finish ahead of Yuki Tsunoda and Sebastian Vettel, as the Briton was in P13 whilst the others were P14 and P15 respectively.

As for the bottom of the timing sheets, Kimi Raikkonen was in P16 with Antonio Giovinazzi close behind. P18 was held by Mick Schumacher with Nicholas Latifi at P19. Mazepin managed to stay P20, like FP1.
