Tesla To Open Manufacturing Plant In Karnataka Says State CM BS Yediyurappa

Tesla, the Electric car manufacturer from the United States of America will be setting up an electric manufacturing unit in the state of Karnataka, stated BS Yediyurappa.

This was part of a release listing benefits for the state under the 2021 Union Budget. The statement reads as follows: “American firm Tesla will open its electric car manufacturing unit in Karnataka,”

What Else Do We Know About Tesla’s India Forray

Back in January, Elon Musk’s Electric company had set up a subsidiary in India by the name of Tesla India Motors and Energy Pvt.Ltd in the city of Bengaluru.

This included an office at Lavelle Road, which is a business district in Bengaluru, with a paid-up capital of 1 lakh and authorized capital of 15 lakh, as per an RoC.

This move comes at a time when the Prime Minister, Shree Narendra Modi is promoting the production as well as the use of electric vehicles so as to minimise oil consumption and reduce pollution. For those unaware, a few weeks ago, rumours of Tesla opening an R&D centre in India spread all around.

“We have been interacting with Tesla for the last few months and it is happy news that they have decided to incorporate their company here. We have impressed upon them that Bengaluru is not only the technology capital but also the aerospace and space capital.

For any kind of technology collaboration, it has the right kind of talent pool,” Gaurav Gupta, principal secretary, commerce & industries of Karnataka stated exclusively to Mint

As for other statements, Union Road and highways minister Nitin Gadkari in December said that Tesla would begin its operations in India in early 2021, with a later venture into the assembly as well as local manufacturing.’

The move to local manufacturing would help Tesla connect and bridge the gap to the masses, with its affordable EV (currently being developed in Shanghai as per reports) being a future prospective launch.
